How to use your life planner
Everything JODLA does, explained simply. Start with the setup, then discover the six pages of your life planner and every setting in the app.
1. The first five minutes
Five settings are enough to make this life planner yours. Everything is in Settings, the icon at the top of the screen.
- Pick your language and country. The country is what shows the right public holidays in your day, week and month views.
- Pick your theme. Light, Dark or Auto, then the theme colour and the binding finish you like.
- Set your two reminders. One in the morning, one in the evening. The Test button sends the notification right away so you can check it works.
- Tick today's habits. Four wellbeing habits are ready to use; you can replace them with your own.
- Sign in whenever you like. Without an account your data stays on this device only. With an account it is backed up and follows you to your other devices.
2. The six pages of your life planner
JODLA reads like a notebook: one page per time horizon, from your vision for the year down to today. You move between them from the cover or from the month tabs at the top of the screen.
My Vision — your vision board
The page where you keep your dreams in sight. Add photos, sort them by badge, and filter the board to see one area at a time. You can also choose which photos appear in the home-screen widget. Six badges are built in: travel, career, wellbeing, family, home and growth.
My goals — the year in four quarters
Your intentions, quarter by quarter, with four goals per quarter. The quarterly split is deliberate: a yearly goal stays vague, a three-month goal holds.
Day — the page you open most
Your whole day on one page: the hour-by-hour schedule, your to-do list, your wellbeing habits, your meals, three gratitudes, your notes and your evening mood. Mood is one tap, from Difficult to Radiant.
- Schedule
- To Do
- Wellbeing
- Meals
- Gratitude
- Notes
- My mood
Week — stepping back on Sunday
Weekly goals, tasks day by day, and two sections that close the loop: the week review for the week just gone, and the focus for next week.
Month — the wider view
The month calendar with the state of each day, completed or in progress, the monthly goals, your notes, then the month review and the focus for next month.
Progress — proof that it is working
Your consistency streak, your record and the next milestone to reach. Below that, the completion rate for the year, quarter, month, week and today, each wellbeing habit in detail, and your mood for the year in pixels.
3. The Settings screen, feature by feature
This is the least explored screen in JODLA and yet the one that changes the experience most. Here is every section, in the order it appears.
Account and data
At the top, JODLA tells you where your data lives. "On this device" means it is saved on this phone only: nothing is lost while you stay on it, but nothing can be recovered if you change phones. Signing in turns on backup and sync between your devices.
Subscription
The section shows your status, Free or Premium. Premium unlocks every theme, multi-device sync, and writing on the vision board and the quarterly goals. Restore purchases is what you use after reinstalling the app or switching phones: your purchases come back without paying again.
Language & Country
Two separate settings. The language changes the interface. The country drives public holidays, so set it to where you actually live to see the right dates.
Appearance — theme, colour, binding
Three levels of personalisation. Light, Dark or Auto, which then follows your phone. Then the colour theme, which repaints the cover and the paper — and new colours are added regularly. And finally the binding finish, the golden spiral visible along the edge of every page.
- Ivoire
- Ambre
- Émeraude
- Madras
- Onyx
- Nacre
- … and new ones regularly
Customization — My habits
The four wellbeing habits on the Day page are only a starting point. Replace them with the ones you really want to track: they then appear on the Day page to tick off, and in Progress as a monthly percentage.
Customization — Calendar
Two things live here. Calendar illustrations let you choose the artwork that dresses the calendar through the months. Sync calendar connects JODLA to your phone's calendar, so your appointments appear in your planner and your JODLA appointments appear in your calendar.
Consistency streak
JODLA counts the days you fill in your planner and keeps your record. Milestone notifications congratulate you along the way — the first milestone is three days. Message style changes the tone of those congratulations: five styles are available.
Reminders — morning and evening
Two reminders only, and that is on purpose: one in the morning to set up your day, one in the evening to close it. The time is up to you, 8:00 and 20:00 by default. The Test button sends the notification immediately, handy for checking that notifications are allowed on your phone.
Smart Reminders
A step beyond the two fixed reminders: these messages adapt to what is happening in your life planner. You can switch them all on, then keep only the ones that help.
- Contextual reminders, the evening before
- Postponed tasks, a gentle nudge about what is waiting
- Weekly recap, on Sunday
- Monthly recap
- Quarterly recap
- Habit streaks, from three days up
Rate JODLA and legal information
The bottom of the screen gathers the store link for leaving a rating, then the terms of use, the privacy policy and the about page.
4. Three habits that make the planner stick
A life planner is useless if it stays closed. What makes the difference comes down to three reflexes.
Open it twice a day, not ten times
Morning to choose, evening to record. That is exactly what the two reminders are for: set them for moments when your phone is genuinely in your hand and the routine holds by itself.
Three priorities, not thirty
An over-long to-do list becomes discouraging. Keep three lines in To Do; the rest can wait on another day of the week.
Don't break the streak
This is JODLA's most effective spring. After four or five days the streak becomes something you no longer want to lose — and that is exactly when the habit settles in.
5. Quick questions
Does it work offline?
Yes. Your life planner is saved on your device, so you can plan on a plane or with no signal. As soon as you are back online, sync updates your other devices.
I'm changing phones, what should I do?
Sign in on the old device before you leave it, then sign in with the same account on the new one. If you had Premium, use Restore purchases.
Can my existing appointments show up?
Yes: JODLA syncs with Apple Calendar and Google Calendar, and since version 1.3 your JODLA appointments are added to your phone's calendar too.
What happens if I stop Premium?
Your data stays. The vision board and the quarterly goals become read-only, and the Premium-only themes become unavailable again.
Ready to open your life planner?
Free to install, on iPhone, iPad and Android. Premium with a 7-day trial.
